Delta Society

We are proud to be an affiliate of the Delta Society . Founded in 1977, Delta Society is the leading international organization for training others in the benefits of animal-assisted therapy (AAT). Delta Society has been the force behind validating the important role of animals in improving people’s health by promoting AAT to the media and health and human services organizations.

We train and sponsor Pet Partner® teams that are certified by Delta Society. We believe the Delta Society training is critical for our members for many different reasons, including the following:

  • Delta Society continually develops new AAT standards-based training programs.
  • All Pet Partner® teams receive Delta Society liability insurance, which covers the teams up to $100,000 if any accidents occur during an AAT session.
  • Medical care professionals recognize and respect Delta Society and are therefore more likely to support Pet Partner® team visits to their facilities.

PAWS

You may have noticed that our organization no longer operates under the name UAATA PAWS. Earlier this year, our board of directors decided that our organization would be best served by using the name “UAATA.” We hope the shortened acronym will result in greater name recognition, which in turn gives us more opportunities to educate the public about animal-assisted therapy. However, in reducing our name to UAATA, we have not eliminated our valuable relationship with People and Animals Working to Serve (PAWS). The PAWS volunteers operate in Moab, Vernal, and Price. Like UAATA’s members, PAWS’ members also specialize in animal-assisted therapy work, volunteering at nursing homes, schools, care centers, hospitals, and libraries.  The PAWS volunteers are a diversified group, with dogs, rabbits, and a cat. They are also hoping to add a miniature horse to their team. If you would like more information about PAWS, check out their website on www.arecil.org.
